The Assassins

Almor, Prelacy of

Capital: Chathold (pop. 15,000)
Ruler: Arch-Prelate Kevont
Population: 500,000+
Demi-Humans: 5%
Humanoids: 7%
Resources: Foodstuffs, Cloth, Copper
Description: Originally Almor was a Clerical fief of Aerdy, it slowly grew in power and independence as the Kingdom of Aerdy grew weak and decadent. While Almor is not a great power in the Flanaess, its unfortunate location has provided it with financial and military support from Nyrond to act as a buffer between these two powerful nations. The petty lords and mayors of the lands swear allegiance to the Arch-Prelate but the state is only very loosely organised.

The population is made up of mainly farmers, herdsmen and fisher-folk, with a few woodsmen living under the eaves of the Adri Forest.

Much of the area of Almor was originally covered with trees. When the area was first settled, the Adri Forest almost reached the shores of Relmor Bay. large stands of trees were cleared to provide building materials and grazing land for the settlers.

Bandit Kingdoms

Capital: Rookroost (pop 25,000)
Ruler: No clear ruler exists
Population: 200,000
Demi-Humans: 2%
Humanoids: 20%
Resources: Silver (mines in rift area)
Description: The bandit kingdoms are a collection of holdings which were founded between 300 - 350 CY. This collection of small personal territories stretches from the southern Shield Lands to the Bluff Hills and northern verges of the Fellreev Forest.

Each small "kingdom" is ruled by a robber chieftain claiming a title such as Baron, General, Boss, Prince or even King. The actual boundaries of these holdings are subject to rapid change due to sudden warfare. In all there are seventeen of these states within the Bandit Kingdoms, ruled by four to six powerful lords, the remainder have formed allegiances with one (or more) of the six and struggle simply to survive.

This nation exists, as no single lord is powerful enough to conquer the entire area, and the combined forces of all the states is required to defend against attack from outside lands. In truth, no lord has ever attempted to gain control of the whole nation, regardless of ambition, because such an act might force other states to forge alliances with neighbouring countries which will come to the aid of their "ally". Thus the Bandit Kingdoms stand more or less together in times of external crisis.

Bissel, March of

Capital: Thornwood (pop 12,000)
Ruler: Margrave Walgar
Population: 150,000
Demi-Humans: 10%
Humanoids: 10%
Resources: Foodstuffs, Cloth, Gold, Gems

Description: Formally the northernmost frontier of Keoland. The march of Bissel was wrested from Keoland during what has been termed, The Small War, with Furyondy in 438 CY. Bissel became a tributary state of Furyondy for a few decades, but when the humanoid invasion swept over Furyondy, the Margrave Rollo established the independence of the land, by bravery in the service of the then King of Furyondy.

Today, Bissel forms a bulwark between Ket and the rest of the east. It likewise guards Keoland and the south. Because of its strategic position, both Furyondy-Veluna and Keoland now support the nation of Bissel, and adventurers and mercenaries from all across the Flanaess can be found among the ranks of the "Border Companies" which comprise the standing army of the Margrave.
